The University of Leeds Language Centre

We can help you improve your English language skills, whether you’re preparing for an academic degree or want to get better at English for everyday situations. We offer pre-sessional courses to help you reach the level of English needed to study an undergraduate, Masters or research degree.

On our General English course, you can develop your communication skills in English for everyday situations, such as work, study or travel. You’ll experience English in real-life contexts, and use current, authentic material such as news articles, websites and videos to learn.

The University of Leeds has been teaching academic English to international students for almost 50 years. The Language Centre is part of the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies at the University of Leeds, and our teaching staff contribute to academic research in language teaching. Our English language courses are accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English in the UK.

You’ll have full access to University of Leeds services and facilities including our Language Zone learning resource centre. Teaching is on campus and you can apply to stay in University accommodation, get involved with campus life and meet other students. Start dates are available throughout the year. Visit our website to find out more and apply for courses.
