Edge Hill University

Edge Hill University’s Language Centre is an academic department in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The Language Centre offers English language courses to international students before they join their academic courses at Edge Hill and continues to support them when they start their studies.
The Language Centre is accredited by The British Council and BALEAP (The Global Forum for EAP Professionals) and is also a member of the AULC (The Association of University Language Communities in the UK and Ireland) and English UK.
The Language Centre has been ranked as a “Centre of Excellence” by the EL Gazette since 2018, based on the number of strengths received in the British Council report. The Language Centre has also been ranked in the top three state sector adult centres in the UK (according to the EL Gazette).
Courses offered by the centre include the postgraduate master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MA TESOL), The Trinity Cert TESOL, summer English Language Development courses, the International Foundation Programme, and the Pre-Sessional English Course. The Language Centre also delivers bespoke courses including English Plus and Teacher Education and Training for closed groups.
In addition to English language provision, the centre offers foreign language classes including Arabic, French, German, Italian, Mandarin and Spanish as credit-bearing modules which form part of an undergraduate degree for Edge Hill students. The centre also offers evening language classes, known as Steps, which are open to Edge Hill students, members of staff and to the local community.
