Description
We offer competitively-priced general and academic English study programmes, including a Summer English Study Programme with full social programme, an International Foundation Year which attracts over 250 students a year and tailor-made provision for specific groups such as non-native English speaking academics. The School also provides the EFL teaching on the Graduate Diploma of Management and English run by Salford Business School. The EFL teaching is provided by lecturers with considerable experience of teaching in Britain and abroad and is accredited by the British Council so you can be sure of a high quality programme. In addition to preparatory and access programmes we also offer EFL on many of our undergraduate modern foreign language programmes and a range of masters programmes in TESOL and Applied Linguistics. Academic research is another important area of activity in EFL where staff have specialist research interests in second-language acquisition and computer-assisted language learning and supervise doctoral research. The School also has a long and proud tradition of academic excellence and in the last two research assessment exercises languages and linguistics submissions scored a top grade of 5.

English for Academic Purposes

The English Study Programme (ESP) is a full-time English language course for international students. It is designed to improve your skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking and to develop your grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. The programme is aimed at students who intend to progress onto university programmes at Foundation, Undergraduate or Postgraduate level.
The ESP will give you experience of studying at a university in the UK, it will also help you to settle into a different culture and a different language before you start an academic programme at the University of Salford or at any other university in the UK.
If you successfully complete the English Study Programme at a high enough level the University of Salford will accept this as evidence of your English language ability.
English Study Programme Plus Offer
A discount will be available to any student who completes at least one block of the English Study Programme (ESP) or the Summer English Study programme (SESP) and then proceeds to register on the International Foundation Year (IFY) or on any of the School of Languages Masters(MA) programmes by the end of the next academic session.
The discount will amount to 25% of the fee paid for the ESP/SESP and will be deducted at registration from the fee for the IFY or MA programme on which the student registers.

The Summer English Study Programme (SESP) is a full-time pre-sessional English language course for international students, which runs for 11 weeks over the summer. It is designed to improve your skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking and to develop your grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. The programme is aimed at students who intend to progress onto university programmes at Foundation, Undergraduate or Postgraduate level.
The SESP will give you experience of studying at a university in the UK, it will also help you to settle into a different culture and a different language before you start an academic programme at the University of Salford or at any other university in the UK. The programme even includes organised trips and social events to help you make the most of your free-time.
If you successfully complete the Summer English Study Programme at a high enough level the University of Salford will accept this as evidence of your English language ability .

This three-week intensive English programme is for international students who are joining courses in Salford Business School, but who have not achieved the School's normal entry requirements of IELTS 6.5 for postgraduate students and IELTS 6.0 for undergraduate students.

The International Foundation Year is a full-time, one-year programme that has been specially designed for students that want to study at a British university but have been educated in a different country. Studying in a different culture and in a different language can be difficult and the International Foundation Year provides you with tuition in English and study skills as well as subjects related to your chosen degree programme.
Provided you successfully complete the International Foundation Year, you will be awarded the University Foundation Certificate (UFdCert) and guaranteed a place on an undergraduate degree programme at the University of Salford. We offer over 100 different degree programmes in combination with the International Foundation Year, and the UFdCert is also recognised at many universities across the UK.

Transfers
New international students can request an airport welcome and free transport to the University during September as well as on certain dates during the summer if they are attending the Summer English Study Programme. Independent transfer to campus from Manchester costs £15.
Social Programme
The Summer English Study Programme includes a full social programme run by a dedicated social secretary, with weekly excursions to (for example) Chester, Lake District, Chatsworth House, Blackpool.
