Welcome to the English Language Centre in the beautiful historic city of York! The ELC occupies an historic Georgian Town House built in 1750, within the 700 year-old city walls. A small school, we happily have a famously friendly touch. We offer courses to suit everyone - General English, Adult and Junior Summer Courses, Cambridge Examinations, One-to-one, Teachers' Refreshers, plus CELTA/DELTA. Our teaching team are well-qualified, dynamic and enthusiastic. Above all, they will take a friendly interest in you and your studies. We look forward to meeting you here in York!

The English Language Centre International Foundation Certificate is offered in partnership with York St John University. The course focuses on English Language development and preparing students for study in their degree subject. This Certificate is the best option for students who do not have the required academic qualifications or English Language level required to enter a UK university. All ELC courses are accredited by the British Council, and the school is a member of English UK. York St John University has been designated as a Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

Junior Vacation

- Afternoon activities every day-fun ways to experience English Language in action
This is a special summer vacation course open to students age 12-15 years, and combines lively, interesting tuition with activities every afternoon. This mixed-ability course begins each day with a formal grammar lesson, followed by more flexible project work in groups of around 4-6 students. We make sure that the learning experience is enjoyable!
Language development activities every afternoon - drama workshops, treasure hunts, sports, interviews with local people to create surveys, articles and reports, film making, fun projects, river trips, ghost walks, visits and guided tours to places of interest around the medieval city of York, all accompanied by a member of staff.

We offer a full social programme throughout the year, with at least 3 activities per week, including evenings. During the summer, we offer a lively mid-week social programme plus a free full-day excursion every Saturday.
