Our well-established General English Summer School offers you an interesting study programme with an additional choice of cultural, social and sporting activities at a small extra cost. The objective of this course is to help you improve your English for further study or professional development. You will also have access to the College’s self-study facilities, library, sports centre and the social and cultural programme for international students.
Our General English Summer School offers you:
- 15 hours of tuition per week
(9.30 – 12.30, Monday – Friday and up to 6 hours in our Self-Access Centre).
- Classes at different levels from elementary to advanced
(please note, availability of beginner level on the General English Summer School is subject to sufficient interest).
- Grammar and vocabulary sessions.
- Reading, writing, listening and speaking skills work.
- Cambridge Exam Preparation classes for the summer sitting,
In the afternoons, if you wish, you may use resources such as computers, CDs, DVDs and satellite TV in our Self-Access Centre, learning resource centre and library at no extra cost. There will usually be two or three social or cultural events per week, on some afternoons Monday to Friday and all-day excursions at the weekend, if there is sufficient interest. All activities are optional and there will be a small charge for each.
There is the opportunity to take the KET, PET and FCE exams in the summer. Exams are subject to numbers (minimum 10 candidates).

Academic English courses are designed for students who wish to progress onto other courses in the UK at College or University, such as A Levels or a degree. We offer flexible start and finish dates from September to June and you can study for one, two or three terms. Minimum English entry level is intermediate. Beginners and elementary-level students cannot join this course.
You will follow an 8-hour core (compulsory) General English programme with a choice of additional Special Study modules (9 or 12 hours, depending on the course chosen. EU students can also choose a 6-hour option). These may be made up of Academic Special Study modules such as:
- Academic Writing
- Academic Speaking
- Academic Reading and Note-Taking
- Study Skills
- IELTS Preparation
We may also advise you to follow Special Study options from the General English choices, or to work towards recognised English language examinations, depending on your needs.
The objective of our Academic English course is to specifically prepare you for future study on Further and Higher Education courses in an English medium, giving you the study skills necessary to follow your course. Examinations are optional for EU students and international students on a Student Visitor Visa or Dependant Visa. Students on Tier 4 General Student Visas must enter and attend an examination to complete their course.

The objective of our Pre-Sessional Academic English Summer School is to prepare you for further study at College or University. You will have the opportunity to study Academic English, improve your language skills and become familiar with the UK and its culture.
Our Pre-Sessional Academic English Summer School offers you:
- Either:
- Eight weeks of classes totalling 144 hours of tuition per week, or
- four weeks of classes totalling 68 hours of tuition.
- Teaching is 9.30 – 12.30, Monday – Friday, plus two afternoons per week, 14.00 – 16.00.
- Classes at different levels from intermediate to advanced (minimum IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent required).
- Academic English.
- Grammar and vocabulary lessons.
- Reading, writing, listening and speaking skills work.
- Optional 4 hours per week of IELTS Preparation classes.
- Optional tutorials as required.
- On your free afternoons, if you wish, you may use the resources such as computers, CDs, DVDs and satellite TV in our Self-Access Centre, learning resource centre and library all at no extra cost.
Please note: we cannot accept students below intermediate level for this course.

Our English Plus courses are available from the start of each term. You will study up to 17 hours per week of English and join vocational modules in a selected subject. You need at least an intermediate level of English to join the vocational modules.
Vocational subjects on offer include:

We will always try to accommodate students with interests in other areas if your English is of a high enough standard. Please tell us on the application form which vocational area you are interested in joining.
The objective of the course is to give international students the opportunity to learn in a class with British students. This course gives you the experience of British Further and Higher Education, and the chance to meet and work with home students. There is no exam attached to the vocational part of the course. Students will take an English language exam.
- You will follow the 8-hour core (compulsory) General English programme and choose additional modules for the remaining 9 or 12 hours, depending on the course chosen (EU students may also choose a 6-hour option). These modules can be made up from the wide range of vocational (up to 6 hours) and Special Study options we offer.

IELTS Preparation classes are designed for students specifically training for the IELTS examination used by British and international universities to measure a student’s ability to study or train in English in Further or Higher Education.
Our course includes 7.5 hours of focused IELTS practice incorporated into the full-time English timetable. The classes allow students to look at and work on each of the four skills for the exam (reading, writing, listening and speaking), as well as grammar and vocabulary workshop sessions with individual feedback and timed exam practice every week.
Although Bradford College is not an IELTS Examination Centre, we are more than happy to advise and support students regarding their applications for exam entry and provide information on the nearest centres.

Our General English course is very flexible and suitable for students of all abilities, from beginners to advanced level. You can study for a year or just a few weeks.

- Single room with breakfast and dinner and full board at weekends - £100 per week or £65 self catering. £30 administration fee for both options.
Transfers
From Manchester Airport (1 hour) for £60 one way. From Leeds Bradford Airport (20 minutes) for £25 one way.
Social Programme
Full optional social programme with weekly events, including welcome parties, half days visits to local places of interest (e.g. Haworth, Bolton Abbey) full-day excursions (e.g. Manchester, Liverpool, York) and longer excursions (e.g. Wales, Scotland, London). Prices from £4 for half-day visits.
