We offer flexible start and finish dates from September to June and you can study for one, two or three terms. Minimum English entry level is intermediate. Beginners and elementary-level students cannot join this course.
You will follow an 8-hour core (compulsory) General English programme with a choice of additional Special Study modules (9 or 12 hours, depending on the course chosen. EU students can also choose a 6-hour option). These may be made up of Academic Special Study modules such as:
- Academic Writing
- Academic Speaking
- Academic Reading and Note-Taking
- Study Skills
- IELTS Preparation
We may also advise you to follow Special Study options from the General English choices, or to work towards recognised English language examinations, depending on your needs.
The objective of our Academic English course is to specifically prepare you for future study on Further and Higher Education courses in an English medium, giving you the study skills necessary to follow your course. Examinations are optional for EU students and international students on a Student Visitor Visa or Dependant Visa. Students on Tier 4 General Student Visas must enter and attend an examination to complete their course.
